I feel stupid, but now whenever i create something and then convert it to pdf, and then email it to another person or my local copy place, if they do not have the fonts installed, it does not come through. What am I doing wrong? the whole point of acrobat was to have it look the same way i create it and now it is subbing most everything i do! What settings do i need to change and how do i do that? I'm using acrobat 4.0

As a test. after you create your pdf close all the fonts on you system, open the PDF to see if the fonts picked up or not.
In the program you made the PDF from, make sure you have have it set to embed all fonts.
In your distiller settings make sure you have embed all fonts checked....
Let us know how you went...

I am getting this error message in the log:

%%[ Error: Helvetica not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%

Stack:
/Font
/Helvetica

1
/_BFontUOThick
false

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

funny, I have helvetica installed........

still same error message. And i put it in twice to be sure i got it. It should be able to see it. I have it as a true type font.

Make sure you have all of the fonts, i.e
Helvetica bold, italic, thick etc and you are not using menu styles ie just using helvetica roman and then just changing it to italic or bold in the program menu instead of changing the actual font to helvetica italic or helvetica bold.

I do only have the one helvetica font, not the whole family. but I'm not actually using this font in the program. So why it is looking for it is really quite beyond me.

So i've been playing with it a bit and now it can't find Times-Roman. Doesn't mention helvetica now and gets "null" about a billion times before it quits. I have Times New Roman family installed and located in one of the tracked location folders.Don't know what i did to get it to change its mind, but......

i'm not sure what i did again but i think i got it to work. Thanks for your help. It seems to test OK here when i shut off the extra fonts in Type manager it keeps them now. I have sent it to someone else to check it and we'll see. But through your suggestions i think i got through it. Thanks

Teri

No worries.
Those errors messages can be really obscure, I find it's just a matter of trial and error.
Then again sometimes those messages point you in exactly the right direction.
Glad I could help, in a round a bout way.
