Greetings!

I have a new Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop that came with Windows XP preinstalled. Almost all games I try to run cause it to crash/restart. There's a split second where I get a blue screen, usually mentions some video driver. I've tried the original XP drivers, the latest updates from the Dell Web site and the latest from NVidia (it's a GeForce Go mobile chipset).

The only thing I've ever found that even remotely addresses this was a post on Dell's user forum that said that some older model laptop had this happen because of something to do with the video system's support for multiple monitors, but it didn't explain any way to work around this, and apparently Dell nor NVidia has come up with a fix/driver.

ANY IDEAS?

Thanx!

To see what errors are being reported disable Automatic Restart from errors. Do this from Control Panel > System > Advanced (tab) > Startup and Recovery Settings (button)

One suggestion to work around problem:
For your vidieo controller try turning off sideband addressing and fastwrites also set AGP appature to 64 or less. This helped stabilize my machine.

You may be able to do this with settings for the controller or get the program NVMAX from:

click the Download Mirror #2 at the bottom of the page.

The site is down for maintenance.

You might also try to use Compatibility mode for your games. Right click the executable file and select Properties > Compatibility (tab). Choose the OS they are designed to work with.

Good Luck. Post back with success or failure resolving issue(s).

Had the same problem with XP and even newer drivers on W2K, just try some older drivers and the problem should go away, I am using 2250 with no problems.
