I'm running novell 5.0 and I was wondering does novell store a log with when a user signed-on and off the server? If so, where is it stored? If not is there something out there that may be of use.

I believe you need to have audit running on your server. You can configure this to audit a variety of events - logging on and off and more

Actually audit drains your server so I would suggest writing a quick and easy app or batch file running from your login script that simply writes/appends userid, date/time to a txt file on a puiblic accessed directory. Quick and easy and gets the job done

If I were to create an app should it be loaded to the individual PC's or from the main server? and if I were to run audit how do I check if it's on or how do I started.
Thanks for your help...

The application or batch file can be loaded from your sys\public directory but ensure everyone has the appropriate rights to this directory... the log file or text file can also be located there - making sure again that the users have sufficient rights to modify that file.

NDS does show the last login time for a user. You can query it to find out. But, as a default it does not record how long they stay on, nor when they log off. you will need to audit that.
