It won't use Times New Roman..the biggest problem is that it won't use Copperplate31ab...it instead gives me Copperplate Gothic and gives me the option of using 31 ab..but those are all in caps. What can I do about this. I tried moving these fonts into the Adobe InDesign fonts folder, but they don't work.

What OS are you on and do you have a font manager?

I'm using windows xp....word and quark recognize fonts. Please help..I don't want to go back to the nightmare of using Quark. My font manager is windows, I believe

Can't help with Windows because I use osx. Don't know if moving the fonts was the best idea but, no matter what, restart your machine and ID.

You might try rumaginf around on the Character window to see how ID is listing your fonts. Although it doesn't do this on my OSX, some fonts my be listed by foundry. For example, when I get to the Cs, the list displays Adobe Caslon, then ITC Caslon, then Caslon 540, then Caslon Openface, then Caslon Openface BT, then Adobe Caslon Pro.

I have heard that the font menus in Windows are different, so you might try scrolling through the whole list to see if your particular font shows up somewhere else on the list.
