I will be working on a friend's computer again and have a problem. After the pc boots to windows there is always the old owner's internet options displayed. It is almost like a screen saver or background, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I uninstalled all of his old stuff but this keeps showing up. I can get it to go away temporarily by unchecking one of the menu options.

If anyone can help it will be appreciated. I might be going over in the next few days and will need to print out any helps I get.

Thanks in advance. I hope I explained it well enough. We're in two different states so I cannot answer any questions other than what I already have done on her pc.

i am sure it is a little thing, try tweakui

when you say you can uncheck it temporarly but then comes back on next boot, i am not sure what is it that you uncheck. It could be something on startup, you can try MSCONFIG as PAndersen said, but since I dont like to mess with that, i would recommend Startup Control Panel

Hi all. I went back over her computer again and if you right click on the desktop and select "Active Desktop" in that listing is a listing like "Use as web page"

When I uncheck that listing the background goes away only to return on boot. The machine ia a GOBI. Proprietory I guess. I cleaned out every reference to Gobi and Juno in the registry (after backing it up first) then rebooted but this still shows up.

Any suggestions?

Also, the fellow who gave her the machine has his name in the registry but I cannot change it to her name. Any help there will be appreciated.

And one last question: since he gave her the machine and won't write her a paper of transfer will she be in trouble with any OS or software company?

Hi again nelljack,as for the active desktop it's quite odd behaviour since you make sure it's unchecked and disabled. By there is a good way around it to disable it on here:
You can make a user registry entry, or mahcine wide; i would go for the machine entry.

As for changing the owner:
and maybe you wanna change the default Administrator Ownership (XP):

Last thing, well if she can't get the transfer paper, i can't really advice on that other than say to disable few features in the OS; but i don't expect to be of any troubles. What you have to do it configure win/software for privacy issues; example: disable automatic update service, error reporting, and in windows media, under tools-Privacy uncheck all the items (you can keep the last one though: "Save File and URL..."). Also if the OS is win XP, get XPAntiSpy from here
Good luck

Thanks Rached, I'll look through these and see if any help.
