Why would this problem happen and how can I fix?

If you view any contact, they are automatically added to a group.

This is happening to anyone who works on the databals.

Thanks in advance for your help

I guess no ACT pro's in this forum...

Hello bsimo49,
It is amazing that if help is less than instantaneous there is something wrong. . .

Now, before we can get to your question here are a few of my own:
1. What version of ACT!?
2. Do you have laptop users that sync with the main database?
3. When you say "View any Contact" are the Users checking the Notes/History tab, the Groups tab
4. Have you checked the Users who are complaining about this and watched "exactly" what they are doing? Being "IS/IT Management" you must have experience with End Users doing one thing and saying the exact opposite.

The more information you are able to provide in your question the easier it is for the rest of us to help. Or, put it this way - The quality of your post will be reflected in the quality of the responses.

Michael,

Act 6.0
No laptop users
Act is on the network (2003 small business server)one of several databases they have at this shop. All users of this particular database are affected.

In a nutshell any user using any login on different PC's opens up the database then do a lookup. Once they find the name lets just say "Ben" Ben and all information are added to "Coty Group" or become part of the group. So looking at the screen at Bens contact information you will now see under group name Coty Group. It's obvious a setting in Act was changed but I don't use the product product.

Yes, I've watched the users and performed the same action myself.

Hope this is enough info.

Hello bsimo49,
Thank you for the additional information.

I am wondering if there is not a "Rule" that has been turned on. To check this please do the following:
1. Click on the "Group" button on the left hand side
2. "Group" on the menu, select "Group Membership"
3. Select "View Rules"
4. Scroll through the list to see if any of these rules are active.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Michael

Michael,

Did what you said and none of the groups rules were active.

Bill

Don't know if you ever resolved this... but:
1. Is it always the same group?
2. How do you know the contact wasn't part of that group before?
3. Have you run compress/reindex and database main in actdiag?
