Hi, I cannot accept cookies,

I have tried:

ie - tools > internet options > privacy (to accepting all)
ie - tools > internet options > security (on lowest)

I have tried changing the user profiles on my pc so that each user can each choose all their own options.

I cannot log onto many websites because i cannot accept cookies, eg. passport.com

Please someone help me!
Thankyou
- Satun

Also make sure your not running any other 'cleaning' or 'privacy' software that could be blocking/deleting cookies. Is there anything in your cookies folder?

Can you access secure web sites?

You have chosen the Tek-Tips Forums Remember Me option. We have written a cookie to your system that will automatically log you into the member's area.

This seems to work, but most wont, eg. I can login to a forum, but it wont remember me.

ne4x4 I have tried that.. doesnt work, is it a registry problem?

smah: what would be another program? im just running normal programs like winamp and msn messenger/

- I dont think i can access secure websites no.

Please help
-Satun!

That site says my cookies are functional, yet I cannot logon to passport.com:

Your Web browser options are currently set to disable cookies. To use .NET Passport, you must enable cookies.

.NET Passport stores cookies (small text files) on your computer that let you sign in to .NET Passport participating sites. For information about how to enable cookies, see the online help for your Web browser.

Did that site say that your browser met the security requirements?

Results of Browser Test
Your browser meets the 128 bit security encryption requirement for NETFILE.

Your cookie settings are functional.

Nothing from that other thread helped? - Date & Time, firewall?

Satun,
What operating system are you running?

Windows ME
IE 6 + tools

I am on a network of 3 pcs in my house using routers, running a 1mb connection.

My Pc is the DMZ PC.. so games work and ports are unblocked etc.

I have made this website: - for my CS clan, and all of the members can login! but i, cannot logon on anyof the accounts, because it uses cookies it just refreshs the page...

You don't happen to have
Submit non encrypted data: set to Disable
Active Scripting: Disable

In your security settings by any chance, I did pick up a similar problem once on my site where one user couldn't get in and it was the form on the website causing the problem.
Regards
Ian It's not a lie if you believe it!

Here's an exerpt I've found:

It is possible you have a corrupt cookie for the problem site. Search c:\windows\cookies for any possible culprits.

If no joy, create a new cookie folder. Go to IE file/import and export - export your cookies. Now shut down all programmes and boot into dos if you are using Windows 95 or 98. If using Windows ME use an appropriate disc to access DOS. Run the following commands from the windows directory, typically c:\windows\>

smartdrv
deltree cookies

Reboot using ctrl, alt, del if using Windows 95 or 98. If using WindowsME remember to remove the boot floppy.

NOTE:

Different operating systems use different paths to the history, temporary internet files and cookies folders. Check your system to make sure that you are using the correct path for your machine. For example, you may find your folders are located at ...\documents and settings\{identity}\{dir} or similar.

Test. Go to file/import and export and import your saved cookies.

Also, if you're running a PopUp killer program (specifically something called AdSubtract), get it off your machine, as smah suggested, that is likely the source of your trouble. But, I'm betting on the corrupt cookie...

Submit non encrypted data: Enable
Active Scripting: Enable

I set security to low, cookies to all,

Its not just my site Ian, its any site, I cannot logon on admin.balt.co.uk < try the dummy server, i cannot logon, all my friends can

passport.com < i cannot logon with my passport/msn

my own site wont even logon!

Site which i manage to logon, eg. this one, dont keep me logged in if i close the browser.

carr, how about i delete all cookies? and it still doesnt work

carr i dont see how that can help because I had the problem, and Windows ME has been reloaded, to a different harddrive of mine, and with new/no cookies.

This is really annoying and sorry to keep bothering u all and everything :'( i really need these cookies! (lol) :(

Nothing you can think of that coincided with your inability to hit this/these sites? No new installations?
Try two more things:
1) Shut down all of the other crap running in the background...yes, you IM, etc. ... everything but the bare bones. Do this from your Run window with 'msconfig'... Uncheck everything peripheral and restart. Now try your sites.
2) If this doesn't work, go out and get AdAware ( or SpyBot ( and sweep your machine for crud/spyware/parasites, etc. Now try hitting your site...

Also, if you are running Norton, or have any sort of firewall in place, disable and try your site...
