Hey ...

during the Installation and Connection of two CAT 5500 with a Gigabit Trunk the following errors ( and a nice Loop ) occurred:

%MLS-4-MOVEOVERFLOW:Too many moves, stop MLS for 5 sec(40000000)

%SPANTREE-2-RX_1QPVIDERR: Rcved pvid_inc BPDU on 1Q port ..

%SPANTREE-2-RX_BLKPORTPVID: Block ... on rcving vlan.. for inc peer...

Exactly the same Connection worked with 100 FX without any Problems, but when I tried to replace this by a Gigabit Connection, I get this " too many moves " and so on... messages.

Is it possible, that I have to configure UDLD Protocol ???
This is just an Idea, but I would be thankful for every helpful device.
What about Port flowcontrol ???

best regards

Just a few things to check..
Both Gig ports in VLAN1 before you configure as trunks?
Configure as trunk on?
Check that flow control is same on both ports.

Thank you for your help,I´ll check it out, especially the VLAN 1 configured ONLY on the Trunk ports, and then bring it up step by step.
One more question to Flow Control:
Do I need to configure Flow Control, as far as I know I haven´t seen this on our Campus Network, and we have some more GIGA Bit Connections.

Anyways, thank you for answering my Question and providing help.

From Cisco site:
%SPANTREE-2-RX_1QPVIDERR: Rcved pvid_inc BPDU on 1Q port [dec]/[dec] vlan [dec]

This message indicates that the 1Q-trunking port has received at least one 1Q-tagged spantree BPDU frame with an inconsistent transmitting VLAN ID to the receiving port VLAN ID. [dec] is the module number, the second [dec] is the port number, and the third [dec] is the VLAN number.

Recommended Action: Either reconfigure the receiving port VLAN ID to the same VLAN ID of the peer port, or reconfigure the peer port VLAN ID to the same VLAN ID of the receiving port.

I wouldn't bother with flowcontrol however enabling UDLD isn't a bad idea.

Hi Jeff

well, ... thanks for explainingthe error messages. O.k., I´ll try it the next time we have the posibillity to disconnect the CampusCore Switch ;-)

Hmmm, could you please say one or to more words to your experience with flow control and udld.

UDLD is useful in determining bad connections, failing controllers and misconfigurations, especially when using fiber lines. It doesn't have much overhead at all and detects problems that would otherwise be very difficult to locate.

I have a bad tast in my mouth for flow control. The protocol has only recently been finalized and I have to admit that my experiences were before that. We don't use it and my packed 6509's (384 hosts) don't even come close to filling up the Gig lines. If you expect to be pushing that many packets you may want to try it. I just haven't had any luck with it. ----------------------------------------

Thank You, I think I´ll try to configure the trunk in vlan 1 , and then add slowly all the others Vlan ´s ...
we´re not supposed to use flow control, ...
--- keep it stupid simple---- exactly what you ´ve said.
