we're using qmail on a mailserver in production, and have a few thouand (>10.000) domains on it. all useradding/deleting is automated, so all the accounts are created in the same manner.

i nevertheless have found a domain, that doesn't read the .qmail-xxx for a domain, and all mail lands in postmaster/MAildir/new :( the rights/owners of the file .qmail-xxx are all ok. I've looked into control/morecpthosts and also virtualdomains, and the domain seems ok there. we use qmail with vpopmail, but this shouldn't be of importantce in this matter, right? the email address i forward to is working, and i have the "&" in fron of the address in the file. other forwards on the server to the same address are working, but on different domains.
any idea/hint? i'm not quite a newbie, but not the most experienced either...
oh, and i have no logging now. actually i'm not sure how to turun it on, but we're also low on disc-space right now on the server...

thanks,
ANdrei

yes, it has. any issue with that? because so have othe domains, and we didn't notice anything about them, at least no one complained...

I think the hyphen in the "username" of the .qmail file fouls up the handling of .qmail when dealing with virtuals and/or lists. I might be talking out my a$$, but you should look into whether hyphens are legal for domains in this context.

it's legal... we have at least a thousand other forwards with hyphen i it that work... the system is prepared to handle it. any other ideas?

Any special characters? Is the .qmail file corrupted on the filesystem? If you have thousands of files are you running out of iNodes on the FS?

don't think so... accounts created before and after are working well... only this one domain has probs with the forwards... and ALL of his forwads... would be too weird that all errors happen to him... we have around 50.000 domains on the server... no special characters besides "." and "-", and the system is not new, so anything we have not thought of 4 years ago would have shown till now... we are having heavy traffic, so errors turn out quickly...

the fact is that i don't exactly know how to diagnostic this problem...

You may need to take it to the qmail list from DJB, this sounds like something that's been solved before and I don't know.....
