Hi, I have a workbook with 2 sheets in it. On the second sheet in a cell I have put ='08.08.07'!A20 which is the reference of the cell on the first sheet that I want to get the info from.

But, nothing is happening, in the cell it just says ='08.08.07'!A20

I've come across this before but cannot remember how I solved it, any ideas?

the cell is formatted as text

format as general
select the cell
Press F2
Press return
et voila

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

Yeah now I remember, I've been changing it to general but not doing it in that order! lol

Thanks alot
Chris

I have a cell with a reference in it e.g. $B$23.

How can I read in this reference to obtain the value of cell $B$23.

thanks

neepshed

Use funnction INDIRECT(cell)

If cell $B$23 contains the value 5 and cell $C$100 contains the reference "$B$23" then =INDIRECT($C$100) returns 5.
