help: during solaris 8 installation its giving fatal error .

during Solaris 8 installation , after selecting pointing devices(mouse) its giving a fatal error and the screen is turning green and i can't proceed further.

You can try a text based installation. You have have to un-hook the monitor, keyboard and mouse, and use HyperTerminal on a laptop. That should get ya installed. Usually after the OS is installed, you should be able to hook those devices back up and all should work fine.

hmm .. that interesting using hyper terminal ! Do you use it like a cisco switch or router !?

Do you need any ID or password while trying to use hyper terminal ?

Any example on how this is done and can administration of the server/machine be done using hyper terminal as well ?

Correct! you can administer a server just like you administer any switch, or router using HyperTerminal. As far as I know, this only works on Sun Hardware.

It will give you the same login and password prompts just like when you telnet to a Sun Server. The good thing about using hyperterminal is you can also see the bios post and all that good info, and you can get inot the open boot rom.

What kind of cables do I use to hyper terminal into sun solaris hardware ?
Do I use a null modem cable DB25 or DB9 or a console cable that is similar to router serial to RJ45?

A null modem cable should do the trick... To be any more specific, I would have to know which model of sun server you are using.

We have both E450, Sun fire 280 and Sun fire Netra V120.
Can null modem cable be use for all the above ? Do you need any specific pins for the cable ?

How about those serial Adapter that is attach with a patch cable ? Can this be use to hyper terminal ?
