Yesterday, computer froze when coming out of sleep, rebooted...beeps, HD spins, fan turns on...but monitor stays dead and no lights on keyboard. Am not (complete) idiot, unplugged everything and tried again numerous times.

Another weird point - turned off tower from back panel power supply to unplug everything, when I turned it back on from, the whole thing came to life (HD, beep, fan)...WITHOUT using the Power button on front of tower.

Am I screwed? [sadeyes]

Is there a particular pattern to the beeps? Check with the bios manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer - those beeps are probably telling you something. When you know the bios manufacturer (CMOS chip should be labeled with AMI, Award, or Pheonix most likely), search the web for beep codes and bios name. The most likely candidates are video card and memory.

Quick check when this happens is to make sure the video card is pushed all the way in...

If it is not all the way in.. it will cause the system not to run (yet indicator lights and fans are working)...

the cable from the monitor to the card may also be stretching... so if you move the monitor or the tower... it would cause the system to turn on (because the card may be loose)...

so check the video card...

Try disabling all Power Management settings.
Powering backup by itself is probably due to cmos set to
Power up at power loss.
