Help! Can't run flash movie

Hi

Help - I'm stumped!

I've downloaded a flash template from the web and can't get it to work (surprise). It gives an error when I try to run it

The template came with the already published swf file which works fine - but has "your company name" in the banner. I want to replace it with some other text.

The template also came with the .fla file with it, which I can open and edit etc, but if I try to run it without even changing anything it gives me the error

I've spent the last 2 days learning flash (no sleep) and no joy

The error is

... and then repeats the above line forever

What version of Flash are you using? What version of Flash was the .fla made with originally? Might be a version conflict. Maybe the version of Flash you are using isn't jiving with the code used in the .fla file you downloaded.

I think it was created in MX 2004. I've tried flash MX 2004 and Flash 8 to run it.

The reason I think it was created in MX 2004 is that I initially loaded it in Flash 8 and tried to run it and it told me it was a flash MX 2004 file and it would have to update it to run it (making it only playable in flash 7 in the future).

I let it update it and run but it gave that error. I then used flash mx 2004 and the original .fla (not the updated one) and it still gave that error

You've simply put a stop(); action on a movie clip symbol itself (Symbol 45 - Check the Window's title -> It says Actions - Movie Clip...) rather than on a frame action -> Frame 5 within Symbol 45...
Remove it where it is and add it on frame 5... The window's title should say Actions - Frame.
