The newest version of OSX only comes on a DVD, older G4s only have CDs, perhaps that is the problem?

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Thanks jimbopalmer for the response but i do have a LG dvd drive installed i guess i can try another make of DVD thanks again...

Lucho,

Has the machine been reliable in the past?

I recently had this problem and it was because of bad RAM - the RAM passed all the boot tests, but the machine was crashing quite frequently and wouldn't boot off a DVD at all, but when I pulled the RAM, the problem went away.

This was on a first generation PB15" - apparently that particular model uses special RAM that even Apple doesn't carry any more and if you don't get exactly the right part the machine will get flaky.

Are you doing a clean install? (erasing hard drive and then installing). or are you archiving and installing or upgrading.
Maybe the best would be to do the clean install. of course you would have to reinstall the other programs. We had to call apple with a problem with our printer. they were helpful and it was free.
