I'm running SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 and searching for a driver for a Radeon 9000 graphics adapter. If I could find a generic VESA driver that would run 1024x768 at 256 color I could work with that. Any suggestions?

cdlvj....thanks for the reply. Yes, I've tried the drivers for the ATI Rage chipset and one of the others and they give a corrupted display. I can use the standard drivers for IBM compatible but they will only go as far as 16 color in 640x480. I need at least 256 color and preferably 1024x768. I'm not even looking for 3D acceleration...if I could find a standard VESA driver that would work that would suffice. I understand the purpose of the OS as a server but the particular application that I need this for has to run on SCO OpenServer...it wasn't my choice :(

I did d/l a standard VESA driver for OpenServer 5.0.4 and installed on my v5.0.6 but the drivers (VESA) didn't appear in the list of available choices in my SCO configuration menu.

The site for ap lawrence indicates that there were generic vesa drivers, but the link cannot be found.

What graphics driver do I use for my video card?
How do you know what graphics card you have? On 3.2v5.x, the "hw" command can give you at least the beginnings of a clue. If not, inspection of the motherboard (or add-on video card) might give you information. If there isn't a driver for the specific graphics device you have, a driver for a card with the same chipset might work.

Once you know that, you need to pick a driver. Grepping through /usr/lib/grafinfo for what you do know can sometimes help:

grep 758 /usr/lib/grafinfo/* | more

If you don't find it there, you will want to check SCO's ftp site for the latest Advanced Hardware Supplement , and also under pub/drivers for new graphics drivers. In particular, if you have a newer machine (this article was written in April of 1998), and can't find the specific driver you need, you might try the "vesa" drivers. This is a generic driver that will work with almost everything, though not as quickly as a "real" driver might. It's perfectly fine for ordinary work, though.

Otherwise you may just have to change out the card for one that is supported with drivers.
