Hello,

I am trying to change an Aloha FOH terminal to print as a Windows Printer and am not having any luck.

I have a Radiant Systems terminal running Windows XP Embedded (Terminal 2). There is an Epson TM-T88III (model 129c) attached via serial cable to Com1. Settings are 9600,N,8,1 no flow control. Printer works fine when setup as Com1 in Aloha BOH.

I have gone into Aloha BOH and changed the printer Type for that terminal from Epson TM-T80 to Windows Printer. I made the type of Windows Printer TM-T80 (I wasn't sure if I should leave it as an Epson T80 or Windows Printer). I used a Windows Printer named Term2Printer.

I have gone to the terminal and loaded Epson Advanced Printer Driver ver 4.06. I go into the APD software and configure the printer (name Term2Printer). I have tried both different types of hardware control (xon/xoff, DTS/DTR).

I cannot try Com2 with the printer since there is a broken pin in the com2 port.

After I load the Epson APD software, I cannot get the printer to print a test page. It loads about 72KB out of 113KB and freezes.

I have refreshed the data in BOH and rebooted the terminal. If I try to print from a command line with an "echo test >com1:" I get access is denied, even after refreshing and rebooting.

I cannot find a "regular" device driver for the TM-T88III, to use as my Windows Driver, only the Advanced Printer Driver program, which creates it's own "Com1" port (ESDPRT001).

I need to be able to print to the printer attached to Term2 as a Windows Printer for another application. If anyone has any other idea how to print to the printer (ie. print to another port and forward that port etc... I am open to ideas).

Thank you for any help.

Remove printer setting in aloha and refresh.

Try testing the printer/software.
Aloha likes to completely control printers
so you may not be able to use it for anything else.

you can also try testing the printer/software
on a regular pc to eliminate issues

You will need to load the OPOS drivers and get it working on the terminal with test prints first, then in Aloha add the name you gave the printer in the OPOS confguration. Haven't had to do that in quite a few years, but I beleive that is how it works. Here is a link to drivers, there are others that you may need for XPe.

Just Curious, why do you want it to be installed as a Windows printer?

Not sure if this will help, I do know that the windows printer name in Aloha has to be the same exact name as the name of the printer (icon) in the printer settings.

Thanks for the replies.

DTSMAN, I am not familiar with the OPOS drivers. I saw where I can name the OPOS printer in Aloha (much like using a Windows Printer name).

However, I have downloaded the OPOS program and launched SetupPos. I have created my printer. I am not sure what the next step is to "load" the printer? Also, if I use an OPOS driver, how do I select that printer from within a Windows Application (ie. Notepad).

There is a "UpdatePOS.exe" program in the Epson OPOS directory. Do I need to somehow run that?

Thanks for the replies.

MegaByte, I have created an application that is running in the background of one of the Aloha FOH terminals. It needs to print to the receipt printer. The application prints to a Windows Printer.

We do similar things, and rely on the Aloha COM SDK (Which I think they call Aloha Connect now) which allows our app to print to the receipt printer through the iber(qs).exe.

One of these apps prints a special coupon at the end of every receipt.
