I went looking through the other post and found some info in regards to lockups and such but I am looking for some further assistance. I was succesful in installing the program but I seem to be stuck with Helmsman finding the pdf files. I get the error that no collection was found in c:program files...
I went as far as copying the initial 2 disc set up and pointed Helmsman to this folder where the pdf collection is and no luck. I copied the pdf's and created a folder in the helmsman 4.3 folder that the setup created but still no luck. Any suggestions?

I just copied full CD on Hard drive. Install Helmsmann. That's it...
You must have Acrobat reader installed or take it from CD(It's only reader 5.0.. better to installed 7.0 be yourself first)

In Helmsmann options don't choose to open document as plug-in but by launching Acrobat Reader. I pefer that way for my part...

pdf files are in doc/pdf/"type of doc i.e:IPL45

I found that in the other posting but it does not bring up all of the docs. I am able to see symposium, mermax, mermail and call pilot but the other docs (OTM, succesion 3, etc.) do not come up. I was able to verify that they are in the same folder as the other docs but just don't show in the initial search window within helmsman.

I had the same problem with some CDs. Those CDs are not correctly written. Try another set of CDs. I had that problem on 3 different sets.... The good ones have a paper sheet in the plastic bag instead of the bad ones where you can see only the CD labels. .....good luck

Well I was able to find two other launch icons that did not carry over in the install. They are in the files I created when I copied the discs onto my hard drive. The first one opens the pdf files I am looking for (IPE, OTM, Sucesion 3.0, etc.) and the other opens the pdf's that after the initial install of Helmsman, (CCMIS, CP 2.02, Mermail, etc.) opens. I can deal with that I guess. Thanks for the help.

i am not real happy with Helmsmann. i did a copy on my pdf files and still use acrobat reader, it's shareware and search works from the index.. so i can search for rcap without knowing which load it's in.. if i know the load, usually i don't need to search

So I went ahead and tried that. I added 2 new folders to helmsman 4.3. disc1 and 2 and copied bothe collect files to each folder. It still does not bring up all of the NTP's. It does bring up the primary ones I am concerned with looking at though.

Well like I said, the primary ones come up (IPE, Succession 3.0, etc.) but now that I am looking for work, some opportunities have come up and I wouldn't mind using helmsman to look up other things (Call Pilot, CCMIS, MerMail, Symposium CC server, etc) that employers are looking for and since I have the NTP's.

klowndog420..I had helmsmans 4.3 until monday i had to go to helmsman 4.1.1 but the two cd set i have does have what you are looking for i don't know why you can not get to the ntp's i also loaded the new the 3 cd set calle enterprise multimedia systems with disks 1 thru 3 and a new callpilot cd disk callpilot rls 4.0.

Here is what I did after struggling with the constant nagging from Helmsman...

For each CD, make a folder, in my case I did it like this:

Root (C:\ drive)
Nortel (folder)
Disk1 (subfolder)
Disk2 (subfolder)
Disk3 (subfolder)

Afterwards, copy the entire individual CD contents to the respective folder. In each of the subfolders (in this case Disk1, Disk2, etc.) there is a file called start.exe in each folder. If you click that file Helmsman will fire up and you will get a dialog box with a whole lot annoying facts...just ignore and hit OK and it will automatically bring up the NTP collection in that folder. You will get this message only if you change folders after that point (Disk1 to Disk2, etc.) Just click OK and you are on your way each time. Put the start.exe file on your desktop, rename them as you please...life is good...until the next set of CD's come out!

Here is my experience with my Helmsman. I hope this will clear some things up. I ran the Helmsman install from the CD. Next I copied the “collect” folder onto my hard drive. The second CD has a “collect” folder as well you must take all the files in this folder and add them to the 1st collect folder. The end result is ONE collect folder on your hard drive with all files from the collect folder of CD1 & with all files from collect folder of CD2.

Now all the libraries are on your PC in one folder. You must look under view>preferences set your root folder to c: (it will automatically find the folder “collect” do not make the root folder c:\collect )

The next issue is Helmsman reads a file called “mount.dat” it contains a list of the libraries on each CD you must edit one of these files and add the library list of the other CD. You will need to change the read only attribute of the “mount.dat” file that is on your C: drive in order to edit it. After you change the read only status make one list out of the two lists. Below is the final result from my two CD’s “mount.dat” files. Helmsman works great and I do not hop between directories for CD one and CD two and I never need my CD in my computer to run Helmsman. Life is Good!!
