Hello,

WE're using arcserve for wink2 server. Any tips on why its taking ages to estimate when backing up. Also when we created backups,and display device it only shows group 0 . Can we queue backups on the same group, what if we have to use different tapes / pool.

Arcserve uses groups to submit jobs. You can have multple devices in the same group for media spanning (Fill one tape up and it flows to the next automatically) If you have multiple Devices and want to stream backups then create a new group and place these in there.
You can queue to the same group, only one job will run at any one time. You shouldn't share pools but you could just make sure you append on the subsequent jobs.

With regards to the estimate, how long does it take ? How much data do you have ? I usually disable Estimate as I don't care at midnight when I'm running the job that it has 3 hours to go.

Thank you Cory.
I checked the log and it had nothing to do with the amount of files in a single folder. I monitored it and it was doing an estimate on one folder that only had a few files for about an hour before it continued on so there goes my theory. There was something on the log saying disk full on one of the temp folders inside ca. So I think this is the cause . I deleted and freed up space and the backup worked. I shall monitor the weekly this weekend ( about 80 gb to back up ) and see if it sits on the estimate for hours like it did before on the weekly( about 40 hours before I canned it ) Thank you once again
