hello !

i`m have a problem with admintool on a solaris 2.5.1 running machine.
right after i`m trying to add a new user/group the admintool is "flying" with a Segmentation fault
and a core file is dumped.
i know this problem is common.

but what can i do to solve it?

This usually indicates that there is a problem in the "/etc/passwd" or "/etc/group files", check the syntax in the "/etc/passwd" and "/etc/group", one common cause of the problem is a line in the "/etc/group" file that has more than 1024 characters, if there is such a line, you
can break up the line into two lines, also admintool "core dumps" with SEGV if "/etc/group" file has a misconfigured line i.e. a line with two entries delimited by a colon
instead of a comma.

Regards,

Carlos Almeida,

do you know with what flags can i counr the characters per line unser VI ?

after checking my group file i found out this:
the + char i have in the end of the file causes the problem.
after removing it the problem was "solved".

when i looked up in the man about the group file i found out that the + sign has a meaning for the NIS.
(the problem is on a NIS server).

do you know what can be the cause to this?
