We're looking for a headset for our secretary that would allow her to go around the office and answer the phone, put calls on hold, everything she could do with her 18D phone, but away from the desk.

We have an Avaya Partner system.

So far i've only seen the option of a cordless phone, or a headset, but no headset that allows multiple line use.

Any ideas?

The only thing that would do that is a cordless system phone. The 3910 which only has 2 call appearence buttons. And the discontinued line of transtalks.9030,9031,or the 9040.The 9031 was the best of the three. All models can use headset.

you can do it with something like the Plantronics CT12
its basically a cordless headset /phone plug it into the aux port she can answer , flash to put the call on hold and transfer

just need to work with her a bit to teach her how to work it

I don't see how the Plantronics CT12 would allow the secretary to switch to different lines.

We have 6 phone lines.

The 3910 says it only does 2 lines in the manual, right?

The 3910 does only have 2 line appearances, but it can still ring in on all lines. Or you can use pool buttons. Pressing 9 from intercom will still grab an available line, or dial 8LL to select a line. Same with the C12, just no line appearances. When you transfer calls on the C12, press flash, dial *8xx. As far as headsets, I like the CT12, as well. Avaya says the only "supported" headset for Partners is the AWH-54. (at least according Avaya headsets) I think they are overpriced for what you get.

it acts like a standard phone , look in the manual under standard phones to see how to select a line , answer a call , put a line on hold transfer etc

Ok, i'm reading through the partner manual. If I had the CT12, and I just answererd an incoming call from the outside. I put that call on hold, called another extension and told them they had a call on line XX and it was so and so from this company. Is there a way to know what line I just put on hold to tell the user on the other extension which one to pick up?

Also, we use Voice Mailbox Transfer. It's normally function 14, and a button is programmed for this on the system phones. How do we do this with a CT12?

why don't you call a vendor in to set it up for you and answer all your questions

Because we don't use a vendor anymore. I hoped to get my questions answered here.

I believe transfer to VM would be "Flash 14." But I would just transfer to whatever extension and let it go to VM. It would get too confusing.

If I were to go with the Avaya 3910, i'm having trouble finding a headset for it like mentioned in the manual for the phone. Can any headset be used for it, or certain lines?

You forgot to add "for free".

Isn't that the point of this forum, for free support based on the topic at hand?

That is a noble concept however understand that I am a vendor, an Avaya Business Partner. Free advice here means myself or somebody like me is not making money, nothing personal of course. I am happy to help within reason but this board and others like it should not be considered a replacement for a dealer or vendor and the advice and service they can offer. If we give any more than basic advice we are shooting ourselves in the foot. So don't dump your vendor thinking you can count on the internet to provide you with free unlimited tech support, at least from people who know what they are talking about.

Ask anything you want and if I know the answer I will help.

WOW, Dave, those are SOME REQUIREMENTS.

Having only been in the business for 40+ years, I have a simple suggestion:

A 25 Foot Mounting Cord, and a shoulder strap for that 18D.

But seriously, Cordless headsets and Wireless phones can only do so much, and they are limited by "RADIO" technology and how they are designed to interface to the system being used.

The HIGH DOLLAR 9040 (and other)wireless sets, CT10 & CT12 headsets, and the likes are limited at best.

You must also understand, if was easy, there would be no need for Vendors.

As you about to figured out, IT AIN'T EASY!

That's why there are Vendors/Consultants/Dealers...

Also, this is why I never delve into the Wireless Headset/Handset issues.

For the limited profit, the multiple questions and total customer frustration, it is just not worth it.

BOTTOM LINE:

You can not replace an 18D with a walk about unit.

But if someone knows how, please post it here!
