Draw a circle
Create a guide at the point you need the arch to start
Get the scissors tool and click where the guide intersects the circle.
Use the selection tool to remove the lower part of the cirlce.
Click and hold on the TYPE tool and you will see another tool behind it, click that.
Now click on the left edge of the arch to start typing on a path.
You can use the Direct Select Tool (the white arrow) to select the points of the path (line) to position it correctly.
When you have a point selected it fills blue, when you haven't got the point selected it's white.
So if you're moving individual points, make sure that the other points aren't filled blue, only the one you're moving should be filled blue.

We /you have been here before with my basic knowledge of CS3
and the tips you have already provided me have been really useful and I have been working away with our magazine.My request I suspect takes me to a new level.I am looking through the help file to overcome your first line "draw a circle" problem is I am having a problem doing just that.

In the Tool Panel, on the left hand side you should see

You can also access it through the Window, if it's not already shown.
There is a Rectangle shape there with a tiny black arrow, click and hold on this rectangle until you see a sub menu. Here is where the circle is hidden in the tool panel.
Alternatively you can draw a square, using the rectangle and holding shift and use the Object>Convert Shape>Elipse
