Hello, we have office 2003 installed, I have one user that for some reason cannot see the header for a document template when it opens, if he goes to view and headers and footers the editing function opens and shows the header, if he closes that down then the header remains in place but it will not show when he initially starts up the template, i'm sure it's just some tick box somewhere but I have compared his option settings to my own and cannot find any differences, it's just his machine and the template works fine on others. any ideas

Have you checked the default printer for the machine? The Page Setup within Word?

Did anyone happen to determine a fix for this problem?

I have tried the suggestions listed here, but none of them have worked for me.

Any suggestions?

TIA,
Mark

The Print view is the default view. It doesn't matter which one we change it to, it still doesn't display the header/footer.

We have fixed it on this workstation once before, by installing Office SP1, but now it's gone back to no header/footer.

Thanks,
Mark

Almost certainly the users have accidentally hit the Hide White Space option. In Page Layout View, move the mouse cursor up or down to the gap between pages: the pointer will change into two opposing vertical arrows. If Tooltips is on, it will display as 'Show White Space'.

This setting is designed to hide Headers and Footers and any white space at the bottom of the pages so that you can scroll fast through very long documents. Unfortunately, it seems that hitting that little gap is easier than anyone envisaged during beta testing! It will be changed in Office 12 to Ctrl+Click or something that cannot be hit upon so easily.

tf1,

Thanks a TON!

This has been a helpdesk issue with the same user at least 4 times in the past month...

Knowing this for future reference will be quite helpful.

Sincerely appreciative,
Mark

This white space looks like it could be the cause of the issue as I have managed to replicate the problem on my machine by doing this. Thanks guys.
