We have an HDS 9960 with multiple systems connected via LSI, JNI and QLogic HBAs. Among these systems none is able to obtain Sequential Write performance in excess of 60MB/s. Is there any performance tuning on the Hitachi or the Solaris (JNI and QLogic) or Linux (LSI on v40z) hosts to improve this? Our vendors seem to be shrugging and unable to provide an answer.

There are many more questions that will need to be answered, but seems more like a queuing issue.

What type of server?

What is the bus that the HBA is on?

How do you have the HBA drivers setup?

How are the spindles layed out within the array and at what RAID type?

Server type:
Server1 v40z, Suse 9.3, LSI HBA, Slot 2 (64bit PCI)
Server2 E450, Solaris 9, JNI HBA, Slot 6 (64bit PCI 66mhz slot)

HBA Drivers are configure for Loop (Brocade 3850 reports NL for the port) for server1 and Fabric (Brocade reports N for the port) for server2. All are configure 2G Full Duplex

Spindles layed out.. um. ok.. I go into storage idot mode here. Recently new drives (and more cache) were added and configured Open-[x] 3+1 (1152k Stripe size). Only these 2 and one other (v440 Qlogic) have visibility to volumes on this new raid set, and the v440 is not using them at all, it just has visibility..

Hi,
60MB write throughput might be the maximum you can achieve with the 9960 for your configuration. Most 9960 still have 1Gbit Channel adapters ( = 100MB theoretical maximum), so the only way would be to provide more channel pathes between the servers and the 9960.

regards
Thomas
