I have recently set up a second recipients container on our exchange server for a second company which is being formed here, using the same IMS and under the same site etc. My problem is that as some people (e.g. management) will need a mailbox for both companies and I have not been allowed to change the format for displaying names or e-mail addresses for the new company we now have two entries for some people in the global address list which is of course causing a few complaints. Can anyone recommend a way of disabling the GAL from view or alternative to sort this problem? Thanks.

Address Book Views might help. Dan

If you open the mailbox properties on the server, on the advanced tab, you will find an option of hiding the mailbox from the GAL. this means those who know the address can send mail and it will go through but your local users will not be seeing the duplicate entries in their Outlook. surrounding yourself with dwarfs does not make you a giant.

Why do they need a mailbox for both? If you hide one then why do you need it? None of the users on the Exchange Server see it in the GAL. I'm confused. Please state why you need two and we can take it from there. Also do you want company A only to see users for company A and company B to only see B? Dan

Thanks guys,
Kuria I have hidden some but cannot hide all as users being users don't want to have the hassle of typing in the full mail address each time.
Xybertron, the address book views I have checked out but even if I create one won't the GAL still be viewable and default as the automatic choice when going to select an address? the reason we need two is that the second company is a subsidiary of the original but they have their own name etc so want their own mail addresses however it is still required for those involved in the second company to have access to their mailboxes from the original company (legal and company image stuff apparently!)
They everyone basically needs to be able to see everyone else basically but I was hoping that to make it easier on pc-illiterate types I could just show the two mailbox listings in the address book instead of the GAL where everyone is listed.
Thanks again

Work around solution might help end users:
When we have duplicate named mailboxes for different people (example John Smith) - in the DISPLAY field of their mailboxes, we put what state or region they are in to help with clarification on the GAL.
John Smith (ND)
John Smith (MT)
You could put the company name in the Display field for the respective mailboxes.
John Smith (XYZ company)
John Smith (ABC company)

Not a real solution, but a user-friendly work around.
Good luck.
