I have a new PC (AMD XP3000+, 1Gb RAM, 120Gb IBM deskstar180GXP HDD) running windows XP professional with SP1.
My problem is about my hard disk, every time when I start my PC, and try Benchmarking softwares (PC mark 2002, NERO Cache speed, SIS sandra...) I get good scores, but if I run any aplication after that then do a benchmark again I will get half that score.
I tried new MoBo, reinstalling windows, BIOS settings... but nothing I keep getting low scores all the time !!!
I'm realy annoyed, I'm supposed to have a high performance HDD... but in fact it's performing like an old U6 series
Anyone can help ?

What exactly are you doing? Make sure none of those programs are still running in the background...I really loathe some of those programs. They'll stay in memory and cause everything (including HDD performance) to slow down. What kind of numbers are you getting before launching any applications, and what kind of numbers are you getting afterwards? Also, in windows, make sure the UDMA is enabled and NOT PIO. Sometimes some CD-burning programs will override this and PIO is just awful. What else is on the same channel as the main drive? Another hard drive, a cdrom, cdburner?

On PC mark 2002 I get a score of 1200 (at start up) then I get 750 afterward even when there's no application in the background and the DMA is in mode 5 in windows hardware list, and there's no other drive connected to the same channel !!!
