I am currently running a Duron 600 on an Abit KT7 motherboard. I have 2 hard drives, a Seagate 30gig UATA 66 and a Quantam Fireball CR 6.4gig. I am currently running my system at 978mhz (115x8.5) and when i extract a zip file (for example) it starts to extract, then stops and my computer "lags" up, then starts again, stops, starts etc.. What can the problem be? It does it on a number of bus speeds and multiplier settings...

FYI. My current CPU temperature runs about 42degrees

is that 42° Farenheit, or Celcius. Also how much rams do you have, and how big is your swapfile. Try slowing down your CPU and see if that helps. [sig][/sig]

his CPU is at 600Mhtz, I doubt it overclocked it, since I dont remeber seen any Duron/500 or /550 [sig]<p>Karl<br><a href=mailto:kb244@kb244.com>kb244@kb244.com</a><br><a href= </a><br>Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)<br>

I would be very surprised if this is a CPU prob.

What ide channel are the hardrives on?

If they are on the same IDE channel then the stopping and starting as you described would be caused by the sharing of this channel. I have seen this problem grind PCs to a halt.

Is your swap file on the slave drive?

Try putting each drive as the master of an IDE channel and your cd or dvd as slave.

hope this helps.
