Hi

My HDD developed a clicking noise a few days ago. I immediately ordered a new HDD and it should arrive today. I turned my pc on this morning and UH OH! it got to my background and taskbar and click! click! click! click! constantly and freezes now. I previously installed Norton Ghost ready for a drive copy when my new drive comes.
So this morning I started running SpinRite 6.0 on it. On a recovery scan to see if i will lose anything.

What can I do now.

How can I get all my data on a new drive.

How can I boot my clicking drive??

Can you help me

Regards

spyrit

You may try put HD in a freeser and cool it down for 2-4 our. Then you meigt be able to acces it shortly for backup. Be carefull whit condensing.

Thanks for all your replies. Any more ideas please bring them forward and I will try everything. I am currently going to try the CD-ROM Boot idea. Any other ideas???? (freezer last resort though :) )

You could always wait for your new hard drive and install your OS on it (without the failing drive installed at all), install the failing drive as a slave and then try GetDataBack. This may be the better approach since currently you have nowhere to place recovered data.
