i have installed a 80gig hdd onto the same ide cable as the cd rom drive and arranged the pin to slave.it is a western digital and the model is WDC WD800BB-OOJHC0.
it comes up in the other hard drives properties, but there is no icon present in "my computer."
PLEASE HELP!! :)

is it formated?
if the drive is a new drive with nothing on it that will happen
in the control panel -administrative tools- computer management-Disk management
that will let you format

i did what you have said,it appears here also, but thers no icon to let me format it either :S
it says that it is "uninitialized

CP>AdminTools>comp mgt>disk mgt

Highlight the drive

Then in the top menu bar:

Action>All>Format

"I know everything..I just can't remember it all

which operating system are you running?

how old is the machine?

1) Rt click "My Computer">Select "Manage".

2) Click Drive Management in the left pane.

3) Drive in question, Rt. Click, select "Delete Partition" (Make SURE you have everything backed up off it first, if necessary!!!)

4) Rt. Click drive again, select "Create Partition", and follow the instructions.

Do not attempt to format it with FAT32, as it will waste MUCH of your time, only to fail in the end. XP and 2K cannot format a FAT32 partition larger than 32G

If the above, does not work, do steps 1 and 2 and then right click on the drive icon (on the far left, not the progress bar) then initialise.

Warning: This will delete all data, as I assume that the drive is new and no data is on it.

Also, make sure you click on the right drive.
