I moved my hard drive to a different computer and i connect it and everything but when i go to the CMOS set up it cant dectect it even when it is on auto and i cant detect it ont he IDE dections too...and its the only hard drive in the computer

Is it jumpered as Master on IDE 1?

Is the IDE cable known to work, and is it correctly connected with the red(or blue or gray) stripe along the one edge next to the power lead on the back of the drive and next to pin 1 at the MB connector?

Did you try a different power lead?

Was the drive formatted 'before' it was installed in the different system?

How large is the HD, and how old is the computer?

Also, is either computer from Compaq or HP?

no it wasnt formatted i need the things on there

40Gb Hard drive
1 year old comp

Also, see if jumpering it as CS(cable select) works.

If no luck, the other items in my 1st post are ok, and the HD is not from a Compaq or HP system, then if possible save the critical files to a burner on the system in which the HD was originally installed, and then format it there.

If that's no good and the original HD still exists for the different system, then reinstall it, and see if the subject HD gets recognized as Slave on IDE 2.
If that works, then save the critical files to a burner, format it there, and then see if it get recognized as Master.
