......Or at least I think it is the HD.

Well anyway, when doing stuff on my computer that i would do every day, the computer would lock up and start making some wierd clicking niose. It wasnt a .wav or anything like that it was comeing from the computer! If i were to wait long enough sometimes it would stop and i might be able to continue doing what i was doing befor.

When i start the computer it goes through its normal thing untill i get a message saying there may be bad sectors on this drive run scan disk...... Scan disk would freeze on 4% then start making that wierd clicking noise. So to start the computer i would have to just skip scan disk.

I run win98SE if that helps if any of my system info might help just ask.

Your drive is standing on its last leg. Any data that you value, get a backup of it asap. Your drive could last a few more months, or a few more minutes.

I agree with Zorlod. Get everything important off it, quick. I had the same problem at one time. It ended up that the HD was being exposed to constant static.

Ok well there must be somthing that is sucking the life out of my HD cause its not even 2 years old.

how can i tell if my HD is getting static?
Any suggestions on how to keep your HD away from static?

I heard the best way is to wrap it around with tin-foil. I've never personaly done this before, but it might be worth a try. Ground the tin just incase. That and try to place the HD outside the PC like on a piece of wood or a chair (not in the drive bay), just to see if it might be static or not. And, if it is still making those sounds... then I hope it's still under warrenty and get anything you can off the HD.

if the power cord is properly grounded and the drive is mounted in a metal frame that is also tied to the power cord ground, static is a non-issue.
If the drive is in the case , it is probably a non-issue.
Scuff your shoes on a carpet and touch the metal frame of your computer. If it reboots, you may have a static issue, but probably not with the hard drive. Ed Fair
