In order to set my HD as master I am supposed to place the jumper in pin 5 to 6.
Now how am I supposed to know which are pins 5 & 6 ?!!!
Is that counting from upper left corner to upper right corner?

thanks,

JDL

Depends on the drive manufacturer and drive model. Some drives have the pin layout on the drive label, others have MA SL CS (Master Slave Cable Select) silk-screened on the circuit board. When in doubt, go to the manufacturer's web site and see if you can find the jumpering information for the particular model in question.

I would guss upper left, but it would be better to check the website. I have never had a hd break due to a misplaced jumper (for the record the jumper should be vertical, never had a horiztonal jumper on a hd), so you could try just guess and check until it works (once again better to check the manufacturer's website).

And I've seen the marking stamped into the drive frame itself, w/o any other label. Very difficullt to read. I've also seen the label in the reverse order from those listed. In any case, Master should be either end pair of pins. And the count should be when you are looking at the back of the drive, as it would be hooked up inside your computer.
