HD IS CORRUPT! NOTHING HELPS!!!!!! NOTHING!!! READ PLZ!!!

Hello there... I recently bought a new computer..
Here is a description of it

1,2 GHz AMD 266 FSB
512 MB RAM DIMM
HD 20 GB Fujitsu IDE
CD 16x/10x/40x
GEFORCE 2 Pro 64 MB
Sound Blaster Live...
etc etc...

When i bought this desktop i bought it loose (all parts separat) and the problem i have is the last 2 months everything basicly is getting corrupt on my harddrive.. When i started of everything worked fine! The OS im driving is WIN98 SE...But i dont know what i did cause after a while downloaded files would be corrupt.. DLL's would get errors and nothing would load anymore.. Win 98 loads perfect but while in there everthing is getting messed up!

I get crc errors all the time..My dlls crash all the time..

My HD is connected on a ATA100 Cable on the primary IDE port and at the slave of this cable i hace connected the CD

I'v tried everything... formatting , repartionating, low level format, Nothing works..All the time i get CRC errors´on every file...Even when i Download a 55 Kb file i get this...Sometimes they work fine but its lika a surprise evertime... Iv tried slowing down the HD speed to UDMA66 and UDMA 33 but nothing works...

Im totally out of awnsers now...Iv scandisk many times and i get that there are errors but this is fixed now..I cant defrag cause it says there is an error on the drive...

I havent Flashed the bios cause it finds the HD fine and i didnt think that it would be the problem...

Iv tried to install XP and ME but nothing really works its all the same...My harddrive is new so i dont know what this may depend on...BTW my Motherbord is Soltek MB

If this was all new components, did you try to contact the Hard Drive Manufacturer or Vendor? Sounds like it may be damaged.

Sounds seriously screwed up, but its difficult to send anything back if you don't know whats wrong. I don't know about fujitsu drives, but to my wd and ibm drives I have downloaded tools (from wd and ibm) to among other things troubleshoot the hard drive. These tools are loaded to a floppy, and used as startupdisks, so that you don't have to start win98. I have very good experience with these tools, at least the wd managed to tell me that my previous wd-drive was f...ed up.
When it comes to defrag, I always run that in safe mode, quicker that way, but of course, this sounds like its beyond an easy solution like that.
Just a shot in the blind: have you tested if this can be related to any other hardware issues? Try removing the sbLive card...just a thought..

Is the Cable that connects from the HD to the motherboard new? That cable could have a leak. These are the most common causes of CRC errors and other problems. Try using another cable. And don't share it with the CD for now.

IF that didn't work then it looks like your HD is stuffed. It should be still under warrenty. Replace it. -----------------

When damage starts creeping up like that, especially with DLL errors, that's a sign you may have contracted a virus. Were you running up-to-date virus checks? If you can still boot, I would try loading the latest virus software from Norton or MCAfree or some well-known firm. Otherwise you may have to bite the bullet and take it to the shop.
