Hi All,

I need all your help. 'Cause I am a newbie in AIX. My p55A server installed AIX 5.3.0.0 and I plug in a new Host Bus Adapter FAStT FC2-133. But my server did not see this card. I tried the following ways:

1. lsdev -cC | grep fcs
nothing appeared

2.cfgmgr

It shows:

cfgmgr: 0514-621 WARNING: The following device packages are required for device support but are not currently installed.
devices.pci.fibre-channel:devices.pci.77100001:devices.pci.77101223:devices.pci.pciclass.0c0400.

How can I do now?

Pls help me soon.

Thank you all for you help.

Hi,

I'm facing similar issues like Hertz.

I have IBM pseries server - 9111-520. it is running with AIX 5.3 with latest maintenance / service level.
I would like to connect it to DS4300 using FC HBA and FC loop.
No other connection - would like to use In-band management ...

Here are some outputs:

# lsdev | grep FC
fcs0 Available 07-08 FC Adapter
fscsi0 Available 07-08-01 FC SCSI I/O Controller Protocol Device

# cfgmgr
Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgqfscsi -l fscsi0 ):
0514-061 Cannot find a child device.

# lscfg -vl fcs0
fcs0 U787A.001.DPM25RM-P1-C4-T1 FC Adapter

FC HBA is some QLA2340 (FASt FC2-133 HBA). Don't know if there was some IBM feature code. Will look at it this evening ...
It is possible that this HBA is also not designed to be used in pseries servers running AIX ?

Best regards / Marek

No mention of AIX support on thier website:

IBM drivers will only work with IBM adapters.
cfgmgr may have a guess for non IBM adapters but don't expect the drivers to work.

The lscfg -vl output looks very similar to that of Hertz's card so I guess his is a QLA card too.

You'll need to ask QLA if they have / plan to produce AIX drivers for this adapter.

Hi Duke,

yea I get info thar FC HBA was ordered as 24P0960.
Also I removed it from machine and found these numbers there: PN SN: 24P0961 ZJ1LTY 659 J42
EC: H21901K FRU: 24P8174
these numbers are on sticker that is on same side as ISP2312 ...
On backside there are only FC5010409-22 F QLA2340
and serial number that was described in manual ...
Hmm it really looks like I need to buy a right FC HBA ... :-(

Also I have another issue with second pseries server 9131-52A running AIX 5300-05-06.
From time to time I lost a possibility to connect to it. It refusing all connections and also if I try to log directly (using CRT monitor connected to Graphic adapter + usb keyboard and mouse) I get only something like stucked screen.
And all what can i do is to shut it by pressing On/Off button and wait for some 4 secs countdown (twice).
This machine is running Oracle database ...

Best regards / Marek

On page 11 of that document, your HBA is listed as supported for IBM xSeries, HP proliant, HP Integrity and DELL poweredge servers, but NOT for IBM pSeries.

Scroll down on that page to see supported HBAs for IBM pSeries: Feature Codes 6227, 6228 (both 1Gbit/s), 6239, 5716, 1957, 1977 (2Gbit/s), 1905, 5758, 1910, 5759 (4Gbit/s).

All pSeries FibreChannel HBAs are OEMed EMULEX LP series cards (from LP7000 to LP11000 or more). I've never known any working Qlogic card inside a pSeries server.

HTH,

p5wizard

Of course I know.
I only add this document here for Hertz - if he would like to check his HBA in this interoperability matrix ...

Thanks for all of you ...

Hi!

Once again, Thanks you guy in this forum for helpping me, I got the problem, since i asked form IBM my HBA is support for Xseries and running on windows.

Thanks!

marecek2,
Your other question:

"Also I have another issue with second pseries server 9131-52A running AIX 5300-05-06.

Sounds like a hang, you need to configure the machine to perform a dump and the next time it happens, force a dump. Then get the dump analysed.

Post a new thread for this problem mate.

Hi DukeSSD and p5wizard,

finaly I replaced my unsuported FC HBA (qlogic) and got working one (don't know its part number - I'm not in work now).

after lsdev I see fcs0 and dac0 .... but no dar's ....

My question is : It is possible to have IBM pseries 9131-52A running AIX 5.3 (with latest service / maintenance) connected thru FC to DS4300?
I have only one single FC HBA in pseries server and DS4300 is 6LU/6LX.

Do I need to upgrade my DS4300 to 60U/60X and buy second FC HBA to have two of them in pseries server ?
Or it is possible with my current configuration.

Thanks for answers ;-)
Marek
