I am a novice at Crystal Reports so I hope that what I am asking makes sense.

I am attempting to add a database from another file into a currently existing report. I am able to add the file to the report, but when I attempt to link the file to another file, I get an error that the it is an invalid file link, not consecutive index files. The file that I am trying to add has indexes of Store Number, Payment Media Number, and Posting Date. I am able to link the Store number, but not the posting date.

Please let me know what additional information you would need in order to help me.

Thank you.

As with all technical posts, try adding a little about your environment, in this case the Crystal version, database type and version, and the exact error message.

The fact that it's trying to use an index implies a few database types.

You might try turning off the Use Indexes or Server for Speed under File->Report Options.

Why would you want to link by posting date?

Typically there could be hundreds or even thousands of transactions on a given date, and the date itself is not typically a field you would link on.

Please provide more info on the 2 tables ou are trying to link, what you are trying to accomplish, etc. and I am sure we can help you.

I can appreciate your frustration with me on my explanation. It is nothing compared to my feelings of inadequacy on this project.

We currently have a report that we print each evening for each of our restaurants (store number) We give it a store number and posting date and the report generates. On this report is information from several different files ending in .db When I want to see these tables, I generally look at them through Paradoxviewer. I have been able to add to this report and move information around as the managers have requested. However, when it came to displaying the paid outs, this number was in a file not already attached to the report. When I added the file, the program through smart link automatically linked the store number. I need the posting date linked. Without the posting date linked, the report generates a page for each posting date in the file (i.e. the first evening it wanted to print out 1,400 pages instead of the normal two). When I look at how the posting date is linked between to other files, I find an index of store number, posting date. However, the only index available in the file I wish to add is store number, payment media, posting date.

I am using Crystal Reports version 4.1.

When I try linking posting date to posting date in the tables I get an error that the index files are not consecutive. Is that because the payment media is between the store number and posting date in the file I wish to add?

Once again, thank you for your assistance. If I can answer any questions directly, please feel free to email me at Wend5@aol.com. Thank you.

I did try your suggestion, but it did not work. I was still unable to link posting dates. Same error message.
