have windows 2000 and xp. sony works on 2000 not there on xp 1

I have windows 2000 on my c drive and a sony dru830a cdrom
drive working fine there, as drive d. I installed xp on my
e: drive. When I boot on xp, the cd rom drive shows up as a mass storage controller. I am told there is no driver needed, but xp does not recognize it. I have tried deleting the device manager entry and reboot..and get same
results. I tried deleting the lower limit entry in the registry, (the upper was not there), and get the same results. I am stuck. any suggestions?

thank you for your response. It turns out the pci bus drivers were wrong. It was confusing, because the hard
drivers were there and working.
Anyway thank you for your response and help.

When XP went to SP2 there were some issues with drivers. Some companies had to update their drivers. Sometimes not having XP updated to SP2 can also cause problems.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

wish there was a program that would spot this.
the people at the computer shop must have had it.
Oh, well, I bought a faster cpu, an athlon xp 2800+,
to get age of empires III going, as well as others,
for my son. I will be putting that it myself.
