Have no clue where to start

I appreciate your time guys on this one. Here's what I need to know how to do:

I need to know how to have a person upload an image (.gif/.jpg) to a database and in turn show a preview of that image.
I need to create sort of an online postcard (in-house)site where users will be able to pick the size the style but also able to upload their images to use in such cards.

Any help would be appreciated.

it's kinda simple
for any user, put a fields which will store the image name, not the image it self!

create an upload script, or download it from some where (there are many scripts like that for free over the net)

do the same for your postcards, store the name in the database and the pic in your server.
