It is quite legal to make a single archival copy, sadly the steps involved would have to be the exact same as make illegal multiple copies. There sems to be no way to help you without raising the potential to help to commit a felony, which is itself a felony. I wish you well, but if I knew the steps, I would not explain them. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

OK thanks anyway.
will jsut have to make sure I put them somewhere reeaeeeeaaaaally safe!
I would not wish anyone to commit an illegal act My husband was a police officer for 28 years

would it not be an idea, if you have the serial of your win98cd, to go and borrow a copy off your friend? if you can do that you wouldnt have a problem, you could (as an idea) go to the shop where you purchased the cd for win98 and request your OEM serial (of course the keep a file system??????? :-( prob not, but maybe), the media is irrelivant as long as you have a valid and legit serial.

I am unsure of your current state laws, but it sounds very different to mine here in australia... do what you will with the info i have given you, but here that would be legal to do so.

if your system is in current working order, go and get a copy of Symantec GHOST and do a complete clone of your system.. there's an idea.

AnyQ's, let me know.

Thanks!,

Luke.

It's not illegal to make a backup copy for personal use only. It's not illegal to disseminate this information or instructions on how to do this, if in good faith, you expect those who see it to not use it for "illegal" purposes.
It's only illegal if you copy it to give to other people, or to sell it.

But like was said already, Toast will make an exact copy of any cd. It's an invaluable tool. ________
Remember, you're unique... just like everyone else.

HI good people, thank you so much for the input. I think I will try the idea and go back to the shop. I am sure they will give me the serial number I need as they put it in originally and are a small computer shop, not one of the biggy chains.
So they probably have a record of it somewhere they are quite detailed there and we have our own member cards so they can look up all the work they have done.
