200 MHz Pentium, 32 MB RAM, 1998 vintage. Need 98 or better for Video Cam. I am seeking advice for 98, ME or 2000 upgrade.

Buy more RAM, 32Mb isn't really enough. So far I like Win2K (although I run 98 at home), but you need to figure out what software/hardware you want to run and see if Win2K can run the software or has the drivers. If it's got to be 98 or ME, I think I would go with 98SE.

Should have at least 64 MB RAM - and that's even kinda small these days. - I would suggest 128 MB RAM to start off with. I would have suggested win2k - however, I think it would really tax your system's resources and your performance would be very slow. Actually, come to think of it 32 MB RAM is the lowest you can operate win2k at. Believe me. . . you really don't wanta be moving at turtle speed.

I agree with paul. Definetly bump that memory up if you can. Go with with Win98 se. Stay away from WinME.

Good luck!

I agree - WinME sucks!! My dad has it at home and the computer freezes up every 5 minutes in internet explorer. We have 98 and 2k machines at work and both are great - but if you won't have much ram stick with 98. You can buy 128 MB of RAM for around $35 here - check your local electronics stores.

Yes, STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!!

I'm in the process of going back to 98. ME's uninstall feature doesn't work and I'm going to have to re-format my hard drive.

I love 98, but also use 95 on some PC's, and find no reason to upgrade from 95 unless you have specific problems that 98 fixes.

98 is not a "better" upgrade than 95, it's just different. Jon Holmen
