Hi all,
currently We have 9 servers running Netware 5.1 SP4 and 1 server running netware 5.1 sp2(remote office).
I didn't even know this server had sp2 installed(I inherited this Network From a previous Admin)no communication problems so far with this server having sp2 istalled and the others sp4.
Im travelling to this remote office and I will do some upgrades to the hard drives and also Im going to implement Zenworks but for this I will have to install SP6 on the server. the question is: do you think that having all the other servers with sp4 and the remote server on sp6 will generate any problem on the networ?.I will be installing sp6 on the other servers soon.

Pipil, it's very difficult to know if you'll have problems solely based on the service pack level. Initially I would say that it shouldn't be a problem and get the others updated as soon as you can. But every environment is different and there are numerous products and services running that may work in some situations and not others.

The best thing I could recommend is put SP6 (or SP7) on the remote server and deal with any problems as they come up. If you do have problems, they will most likely be minor.

Marvin,
don't you think sp7 is too early to implement since is new?.
so you recommend sp7 instead of sp6?.

thanks.

No. I don't think it's too early. But the most important thing is to be consistent. If you go SP7, do it on all of them. If you don't feel comfortable with SP7, then put SP6 on all of them.

Or better yet, if you're not having problems, don't patch any of them except for your remote server and bring it up to SP4. Before SP5, 6, or 7 came out, I ran a very large network on NW5.1 SP4 and it was extremely stable.

Marvin,
I was thinking to install SP4, but I found out that the SP4 cd we had was misplaced and cannot find it and I cannot find it on Novell's website anymore, so I guess i will have to install sp6.

thanks for you help.
