Basically, I'd like to update just System Manager if that's ok to do. System Manager is 6.0 something and Session Manager is 6.0 something. I'd like to update System Manager to the latest dot release, which I think is 6.2. I've never done this before and updating Sys Mgr makes me extremely nervous. Has anyone done this before and how hard is it for a sys admin like me to do? I can easily apply updates to Communication Manager and I know the process, but I realize the System Manager updates are very different and I'm not familiar or comfortable with what needs to be done at all...and I'm not even clear on exactly what needs to be done anyway.

pretty simple to do. Just make sure you check all the documentation on compatability. System manager runs on system platform so you actually log into system platform to do this update. Here is a doc. I think you will find page 59 and 60 useful.

We upgraded ours from 5.2 to 6.1 not too long ago. I had a business partner do it but I was involved in the whole process. Basically it was a pain in the neck. The direct upgrade path never would work. We ended up just doing a clean install and restoring the data from the backups. The direct upgrade path looks simple on paper, but in my experience it just didn't work.

Remember that your Session Manager will still work OK without Session Manager, you just won't be able to make any changes.

I would also read verycarefully. These things are very picky about what version goes with what so I think yu will have to upgrade Session Manager and System Manager all together.

I just had a conversation with one of our Avaya business partners. The guy said the version of Session Manager must be compatible with the version of System Manager and in our case, we'd need to update two Session Managers and the System Manager. Sounds like it's going to be too complicated for me to do.

Just to note. Upgrading to 6.2 will probably not be as simple as some have noted. For Session Manager this will include an upgrade to the underlying OS so I think you will be doing a complete reload. This will require on-site resources. You must use a disk instead of being able to mount an ISO image.

There are also specific sets of System Platform software/updates which must be loaded with the System Manager upgrade.

The current release for System Manager/Session Manager is 6.1. Release 6.2 is in a controlled introduction status.
