I have a an old Apple G3 Laptop with no PCMCIA slot and I need to join a wireless network. Seeing as buying a PCMCIA wifi card is out of the question, would it be possible for me to buy a wireless access point with an ethernet port and then connect the Wifi access point to the network and my mac to the ethernet port of the access point?

If so, any suggestions on what cheap wifi access point to buy?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Thanks for your help. I'm not too bothered about portability, my landlord has just installed WiFi in my block of flats so thats the reason I need it.

The card you suggest doesn't say its Apple Mac OSX Compatible but I did find this one on my Internet Travels:

D-Link DWL-122 Wireless USB 1.1 Adapter

There are some reported issues but there is also a Driver update which seems to solve these problems.

Paparazi, just gave you the best alternative. USB wifi adapters, are cheap, effective, and most are no bigger than a thumb drive, wich makes them perfect for portability.
They are also very easy to set up.

Sorry, forgot to mention, the 3com one specifically has drivers for MAC.

Just getting a bit carried away.
Of course your G3 will only be USB1.1 but that shouldn't stop you using a USB2 adapter as long as it's Mac compatible of course, Doh!
