Recently borrowed a PC from a friend. (400 celeron), but the HD in it was only 4 GB, so I installed my own 8.4GB drive as Primary Slave (removing the neccessary jumper etc).

Any time I try to copy files to it, my entire PC crashes....not even mouse cursor movement is possible. Copying from the drive is OK, but obviously a nightmare if running scandisk/defrag.

I've recently tried to delete partition and create a new 8.4GB logical dos drive with it, but the system crashed on creating the partition......so obviously not purely a software problem.

I've tried installing it on a different EIDE port, but still the same problem.........

Any Ideas?

Jumpers. You may have the one on your HD correct, but the one on the other is not set right.
Instead of messing with that, just get another cable, and put yours in as secondary master. Cheers,
Jim
