Computer Specs:
Motherboard: Asustek 845E
OS: Windows XP

I recently purchased a 160Gig WesternDigital Calvier Hard drive to replace my 40 Gig hard drive. When I reinstalled windows, windows partitianed my drive to be 130Gig.

Problem: How can I get the full amount of the hard drive i Purchased? Basiclly my motherboard, the bios doesn't support large hard drives past 130gig.

Attempts:
I have tried intel application accelerator and it says the hard drive is at 160gig while if you check in my computer, it is still 130gig.

I have also updated my bios to the newest avaliable on the asus website.

I have installed the CD that came with the harddrive to later find out that it has no use.

I Hope someone can help me with this... Gracias

XP has to be at least at SP1 level in order to receive 48-bit LBA support which enables support for drives larger than 137GB.

See How to Enable 48-bit Logical Block Addressing Support for ATAPI Disk Drives in Windows XP

From this article:

Your computer must meet the following requirements to use 48-bit LBA ATAPI support:
• 48-bit LBA-compatible BIOS.
• 137-GB hard disk or larger.
• You must have Windows XP SP1 installed.

If your BIOS doesn't support 48-bit LBA, a possible alternative is to purchase an IDE add-on card that does provide support.

thanks for your reply its very much appreciated, well my main focus was to NOT split the hard drive up into two drives and bypass the windows xp partitian limit.

I was able to sucessfully do this by booting off the cd that came with the hard drive to create the partitian instead of letting windows xp do it. Then i would install xp normally afterward.

^ for all future people having this problem
