first thanks to the guys that solved my porting new hd into my new system i got it up and running, HOWEVER i have this very strange problem in the respect that my hd will not even power up untill i remove the ide cables from my dvd writer and cd rewriter, this of course boots windows fine, but what good is a system without cdroms!!, i have fiddled around in the bios but i cant see anything glaringly obvious, your help would be most appreciatedthnaks

Master/Slave settings on Roms and or HD set incorrectly?? But this shouldn't really stop the HD from spinning.
If thats not the case then one of the roms could be faulty.

thanks for the reply paprazzi i have just moved everything as is from my old system, i just dont understand why it should prevent the hd from even powering up untill i remove both ide cables and reboot?, i have tried plugging in the ide cables when the system is booted, but it just freezes and have to powerdown. what configuration is best for 2 physical drives and hard disk HELP!! THIS ONES BLOWING MY MIND!!

Howdy:

Hard-drive jumpered as Master and connected to Primary IDE..

Cd-rom's, etc jumpered as master and slave and connected to Secondary IDE.

BIOS set to detect IDE drives automatically with the first boot device being IDE-0 or c: drive whichever your BIOS sets boot devices as.

Make sure you have the cables in the back of the dtives right. The colored stiped edged cable (usually blue) goes towards the power cable of the drive. If you have these backward the drive will not spin up. make sure you put them in the motherboard right too...striped pin to pin 1 of IDE connector.
