I have been trying to partition my 2nd hard drive but can't get it to change from a dynamic one to a basic one. I am running on Win2K and the microsoft support website says I need to do this.

I have gone through the usual admin tools - comp management - disk management route but when I right click on disk 1 the revert to basic option is not enabled.

I have tried running partition magic 8 on it too but that just says the disk contains one or more partitions that can't be removed (which it doesn't)

Athlon 1.2 : Win2K : Maxtor 80G Hard Drive.

Help!

If you converted it from Basic to Dynamic then you cannot revert it back to a basic. You will have to delete the physical partition and recreate it as a basic disk.

OK. Thanks for the replies.

There aren't any partitions currently on the disk - in fact there's nothing at all. WWhen I created the disk I don't recall getting the option to make it basic or dynamic, windows just seemed to do it by itself.

The drive isn't the boot disk either, it's just an additional drive.

Still stuck!

Solution on other dynamic overlay problems is to do a zero fill to wipe out the boot sector code that is creating the problem. Your drive manufacturer may have a diagnostic program that includes the zapper.
