I have an 80GB EIDE WD800 Western Digital Caviar drive with about 40GB of files on it that I need for work. When we try and install it into a PC (we have tried multiple machines with the same result) it shows in the BIOS as a HDD but in Windows it's displayed as a removable device. When we try to view the contents of the drive we get the "Please insert disk" error. Anyone know a solution? Thanks all!!

It sounds like a corrupted partition table or file table. did anything happen to the disk prior to this issue?

Have you tried using File recovery tools on the drive?

has a pretty good one by the name of GetDataBack. Just make sure you get the correct one for your Filesystem. (FAT or NTFS)

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

I'll try that and see how it goes. To my knowledge, nothing happenned to this drive to cause this kind of error. I'll get back to you soon.
