I have a computer with windows 2000 with 359 memory, my problem is that i have install two brand new cd-r drives and everytime i want to listen to music on my computer the sound kind of bump's and it does this through out the whole song, i have like 4 programs to play cd's and only windows media player reads it correctly, why does the other program don't read it correctly is it beacuse of the sound card? or the cd drive? the sound card i have is a vinyl AC'97 codec dombo driver (WDM) its by via technologies, Inc, by the way this is an old computer like 5 years old, i have upgraded everything from software to memory... My computer is an AMD duron, AT/ATA compatible,is it the cd drive ihave a e-ide internal drive ,, i had an old drive before it was a dvd-rom with an IDE / EIDE interface it read all cd songs correctly, is it a specific drive i need to have ? the drive i have is compatible with windows 2000 does the interface matter? or do i need a new sound card? please help, not that i have install all softwares over and over again so i don't think its the software..

If you had a different drive that worked it probably is a hardware problem with the drive. All internal ide cd rom drives should be recognized by win2k natively. (no drivers needed)

The answer is "42"

i mean it could be that but then again, why does windows media player reads the cd without any problem, and this is a brand new cd writer i just bought it yesterday, i also tried with another cd drive i have in another computer (my work computer)and same thing happens, the song bumps , it also had an old drive in there which works on my work computer and did the same thing ,,, I have tried 3 different cd-r drives and same problem.... note they all work on my work computer.... now the only drive that worked was a dvd-cd drive which wasn't meant to record just read cd's.. why is that? do ineed to upgrade the cd-rw drives or download a codec as you know this is an old computers so maybe there a re some hardware drives that need to be upgraded,....
and also they are all compatible with windows 2000

1.) if it plays in WMP then it is not a Hardware Problem...

2.) it is not easily determined where the problem lies, it could be codec related or some other software maybe interfering, ie. NERO (some versions have problems on play back)...

3.) some playback softwares need the ASPI LAYERS from Adaptec to function correctly (though these usually are older progs), so updating the player software may be worth a try...
