Hi,
i have a ThinkPad T43p. I have put a new hard drive in. I went to the bios to change the boot order to CD first, HDD second. but, the hard drive is not showing up in the BIOS. is there anything i can check or do to make this drive register?
thanks.

thanks badbigben,
i have tried one new drive and two used drives that work on another laptop. you may be right about connection. but, i don't know how to check into that. the connector is soldered to the mobo. i may have to take it apart to get to the hdd housing and the connector to see if that makes a difference.
thanks.
i'll post back what the result is so others can benefit too.

if you already tried various different drives, that where known to function, then I am almost certain that onboard controller is dead...

with a notebook that is over 4 years old, I would not put too much money or time into it...

but wait a bit for other members to either confirm this or come up with another solution...

Does the drive (or drives) actually power up?

If you have placed SATA HDD you'll need to change a setting from BIOS. Mostly under Advanced Menu there should be a setting for AHCI! YOu need to disable that setting. Ive experinced same problem a couple of times and solved with this way including my recent desktop.

pulsarkuant,
it's not a SATA drive, it's an IDE drive.
OK, problem solved. i just wanted to post for everyone's benefit. the t43p has a 15 inch lcd vs t43 which has a 14 inch screen. the hdd housing for the t43p is about 1/2 inch deeper than t43. so, with the cover attached to the end of the hdd, it will not reach the plug holes. t43p uses a special cover with longer handles which pushes the hdd deepr inside the cage. my hdd's were not being pushed far enough inside the cage to engage the plug holes, but it was feeling tight enough to get a feeling that it is "plugged" into to something. my bad was that i was using a t43 cover with short legs vs a t43p cover with long legs. case solved.
thanks everyone for help in this.
