I had my computer on and i went away for a couple mins... When i returned the computer was off. I tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't get any power. I then turned the switch in the back of the computer off then on again. I tried to turn it on again and it worked. But it would not find my harddrive on startup. It just goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor then the power turns off eventually on its own (and to turn it back on i have to reset the switch from the back again). I hooked up another hard drive and it found it but it still just went to the black screen and blinking cursor. Is my hard drive ruined or is it another part of my computer? please help and thank you :)

Sounds wierd but it is most likely the power supply. If you have another computer try putting the hard drive in it. No matter how bad the hard drive is it shouldn't cause the pc to turn off unless it is causing a short somehow which I can't see.

Have you slaved hard drive in another machine to see if its accessible?

Have you been into bios settings and tried to get it to find hard drive?

Whether you had a power outage or a short on the board, it appears something is damaged - but not obvious what without further investigation.
