This has been a problem since last week. I have had the hard drive for well over a year, and now all of sudden its giving me problems. What happens is that sometimes when I restart my computer, on the very first screen, when it's supposed to find the hard drive, it tells me that it cannot find it. I have to restart my computer several times, until it starts working.

Sometimes when I'm simply browsing the Internet, the blue error screen pops up and tells me that it cannot write to Drive C. Right after that, I hear the hard drive shutting down and the computer freezes. It happens at least once a day. I've changed firewalls, because ZoneAlarm Pro had a feature where it disconnects the hard drive after an hour of not using it. But that didn't seem to fix my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, check to see that the cable from the power supply is connected properly to the disk drive. You can unplug it and then plug it in again just to make sure.
Was the drive new when you got it? Daniel Svensson, A+ Network+ MCP

Yes, the drive was new. And I bought a brand new power supply cable, but it still disconnects once in a while.

Go to the website of the manufacturer oif your drive and download their diagnostic software. When you run that diagnostic it will tell you if the drive is bad, which it sounds could be your problem. Only one year old? Should be under warranty, just make a note of the error code if you get one when you run the diag. Tony
